Douglas County has 3 different Community Colleges.  Depending upon your residence, determines which Board positions will appear on your ballot.  Each has it’s own governing documents for elections.

Umpqua Community College serves Douglas County Precinct #’s: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 1, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 & 29

Umpqua Community College

Special District Elections happen every 4 years.  The last election was May 18, 2021.   The elected positions are for Directors of Zone 1, 2, 3, & 4.

The term of office of each Board of Education member shall be 4 years, commencing on July 1 following the election. The term of a Board of Education member expires June 30 following the regular district election at which a successor is elected.

Elections shall be held every two years, in odd numbered years. Terms of Board of Education members are staggered so that, as nearly as practical, one-half of the Board of Education members shall be elected at each Board of Education member election.

The Board of Education shall be composed of seven members who serve terms of 4 years. A person shall be qualified to be a candidate for election to the board if the person is an elector who resides in the district and the zone for which the person is elected. A board member must qualify for office by taking an oath of office.  No person who is an employee of the community college district shall be eligible to serve as a member of the board for the district by which the employee is employed.

Southwestern Oregon Community College

The Board of Education represents all citizens of the Southwestern Oregon Community College District, which comprises Curry, Coos and western Douglas counties on the south Oregon coast.

District voters elect these seven people to serve four-year terms. 

This Board determines the policies to govern the college’s operations. The Board also hires and supervises the college president. President Dr. Patty Scott then oversees operations. The Board also is assisted by four ex-officios representing the students, faculty, and classified staff.

A seven-member, appointed Budget Committee assists the Board of Education with annual budget preparation. The Board approves major expenditures. Each of the members also participates in college and community events.

Purpose
The Board of Education term of office for members elected within the community college district is four years.

Statement

Designation of Board Positions
The positions of Board members elected at-large and their respective successors in office will be designated by numbers as Position No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7. In all, proceedings for the nomination or election of candidates for or to the office of board member, every petition for nomination, declaration of candidacy, certificate of nomination, ballot or other document used in connection with the nomination or election will state the position number to which the candidate aspires.

The satellite campus at Brookings near the California border overlooks the mighty Pacific Ocean. This campus specializes in a supportive, small class-size environment. The campus is well-known for its excellent nursing program and popular community education programs.

Lane County Community College

Lane County Community College District Zones

The Lane Community College District serves a 5,000 square-mile area stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Cascade Mountains. The district includes most of Lane County, as well as the Monroe School District in Benton County, the Harrisburg Union High School District in Linn County and a small area in northern Douglas County. The total district population includes about 390,000 people.

Seven elected, non-paid persons comprise the LCC Board of Education and have primary authority for establishing policies governing the operation of the college and adopting the college’s annual budget. Their charge is to oversee the development of programs and services which they believe will best serve the needs of the people of the LCC District. Five directors represent one of five district zones; two are elected at-large. Low- and high-resolution maps are available below.
